6 Ways To Spend A Summer Day At The Base

Visiting Winter Park, CO this summer? Summertime is in full swing here at Winter Park Resort! Make sure to check out all the fun activities at the base, as it transforms from a winter wonderland into a summer utopia. Kids and adults alike will enjoy all the base has to offer. Day passes are available, but trust us, it’s going to take more than a day for you to enjoy all the activities at the Winter Park Resort Base Area. Make sure to check on the Resort’s Website for a full list of open activities & hours of operation.

1. Mountain Biking

You don’t have to be a hard core, downhill biker to enjoy the Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park Resort, but if you are, you’ll have a perma-smile the whole time you are here.  With 40 miles of downhill trails, from cruisers to scream-your-lungs-out trails, you can find the ones that provide the right amount of challenge for you. If you don’t quite have the courage to go it alone, you can hire a guide or take a lesson until you feel confident. For those “flatlanders” who think they can’t pedal to the top, there are E-Bikes for to help you power up the mountain so you too can enjoy those grand vistas.

While Winter Park Resort maintains 40 miles of trails, there are also over 600 miles of trails in the surrounding area to explore. Stop by the Winter Park Fraser Chamber of Commerce downtown to pick up a map so you can find your way home.

2. Base Activities for the Kids

If you aren’t a full blown adrenaline junkie or you have some kiddos in your crew, there are other activities for you.  An 18 hole mini-golf course, human maze, low ropes course, climbing wall, kid’s ropes course, mini-zipline, jumpy house, trampolines, human gyroscope and the alpine slide. We especially love the mini-golf course at the base area. It’s the perfect activity to social distance with your family while getting in a little friendly competition!

3. Disc Golf Course

For those who like to enjoy nature at their own pace away from the bustling base, try a round of disc golf. You’ll want to be sure to wear good hiking shoes and bring your own water as these 20 holes will take you up and down and around the entire mountain. This course is over a mile long, so you’ll be sure to get your 10,000 steps in. And the best part is you get to ride the alpine slide to the bottom when you are finished. What a bonus!

4. Take a Gondola Ride

You can spend the whole day at the base, but if you only have a few hours for your adventure, take a scenic gondola ride to the top and see views like never before. You’ll be in awe as you gaze out on a 360 degree view of the mountains and valley. Grab a beverage from the bar in Sunspot and soak in the sun on the deck or challenge some locals for a beer in a rousing game of corn hole. Plus the outside dining options here come with stunning views.

5. Shopping

Not everyone enjoys working up a sweat, so we have the perfect relaxing activity for you…Shopping! Stroll through the village and mosey into the shops where you’ll find everything from outdoor gear to knick knack souvenirs. You didn’t even realize you needed that new periwinkle fleece, did you? Some of our favorite stores include James and Parry’s for unique gifts and clothing, Treeline Treats for sweet snacks and the Burton Store for high-quality gear.

6. Dining

Your belly will be growling after you finish any of these activities, so find yourself a nice patio seat at Vertical Bistro and Tap or Lime and have a cool refreshing beverage and a bite to eat. Enjoy the sunshine and fresh air while you participate in the one activity everyone enjoys, people watching.
