Winter Park Jazz Fest News | Charlie Wilson to Replace Frankie Beverly

Charlie Wilson to Step Up and Replace Frankie Beverly and Maze

Sadly, due to personal health issues, Frankie Beverly has had to cancel all of his July tour dates.  Not much information is available pertaining to the 70-year-old singer’s health issues but we wish him a smooth and speedy recovery.

Charlie Wilson has announced that he is stepping in to fill the great shoes of Frankie and Maze for the 2017 Winter Park Jazz Festival!  Charlie, age 64, has had a lifelong music career much like Beverly.  Charlie was the originator and lead singer of The Gap Band formed in the early 1970’s and produced 15 albums before retiring in 2010.

Charlie has since launched a successful solo career producing 8 albums, his latest, In It To Win It, released in February of 2017.  He has recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  Charlie has collaborated with countless to rap, jazz, and rhythm and blues icons such as Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, and Robyn Thicke.  Charlie’s focus and drive is to continue to produce great music and display it live on stage.  In his own words, “It’s championship time!”
