Top 10 FAQs About Winter Park Jazz Festival

For those that are new to Winter Park Jazz Festival, we thought it might be helpful if we put together a list of our most commonly asked questions about the event and the Winter Park area.

Where is Winter Park Jazz Festival?

Winter Park Jazz Fest is held in the picturesque, Rendezvous Event Center at Hideaway Park, in the center of downtown Winter Park, Colorado.  Winter Park is located about 70 miles west of Denver in the Rocky Mountains, at an elevation of approximately 9000 feet.

What is the weather like in Winter Park in July?

July in Winter Park is generally warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures in the mid-70’s and evening temps dropping down to a refreshing 45-50 degrees.  Mountain weather can be temperamental in the summer months and it’s not unusual to see short rain showers or even thunderstorms in the afternoons; so we always recommend that you bring along a cover-up and umbrella that can be used for rain and also double as a sun shade.

What are the best places to stay near Winter Park Jazz Festival?

For those wanting to be as close as possible to Hideaway Park, Trailhead Lodges condos & Sawmill Station townhomes are the closest available rental options.  But, there are many other options available in downtown Winter Park that are an easy walk or bus ride away; and for more affordable options, we recommend looking at rental units in neighboring Fraser, or Winter Park Resort.  As lodging begins booking up (normally as early as May), the rental rates will increase substantially, so we recommend looking for early bird discounts either right after the festival, or during the winter months.

I want to drive, where can I park for Winter Park Jazz Festival?

We would definitely recommend utilizing the free bus service to get you to and from Hideaway Park, but if you need to drive, parking is available at the free covered parking at Cooper Creek Square (height restrictions), on street parking on Kings Crossing and surrounding side streets.

I don’t have a car. How do I get to Winter Park by bus or train?

Amtrak offers a daily train service to Fraser-Winter Park from Denver Union Station, with a ride time of approximately 85 minutes.  Alternatively, Greyhound offers a daily service from Denver Bus Station on 19th Street to downtown Winter Park.  Once you arrive at either destination, you can take the free bus shuttle service or call a local taxi to take you to your accommodations.

Where and when do the Winter Park free buses run?

Winter Park operates a free bus transit system between Downtown Winter Park, Winter Park Resort and Fraser.  The buses run from 7 AM – 2 AM, seven days a week, with key pick up locations in each of the towns.

Where can I go grocery shopping in Winter Park?

There are two main grocery stores in the Winter Park area: Fireside Market & Eatery is located two blocks from Hideaway Park in Downtown Winter Park, and the more affordable Safeway is located on the main bus route in the town of Fraser.  There are also liquor stores situated right next to both super markets.

What can I bring into the venue?

Small soft-sided coolers (6 pack size) with factory sealed, non-alcoholic beverages and small snacks are permitted.  You can also bring in an empty camelback/hydration pack to fill up with water inside the festival grounds.  General admission tickets are lawn seating on the grass, so we recommend bringing a regular sized, folding chair, small cushion or picnic blanket.  Pocket sized umbrella’s, binoculars, camera’s and other small electricals are also permitted.  Smoking of any kind is prohibited throughout Hideaway Park.

Express Lane, VIP & Disabled Access?

Ticket options for Winter Park Jazz Festival include General Admission, VIP and an express pass add-on for either ticket type.  VIP tickets put you closest to the stage and front of stage dancing area, and also include a provided chair per ticket.  General admission tickets are lawn-seating (i.e. on the grass) – so you’ll definitely want to bring along your own blanket and chair).

The express pass add-on is recommended for both ticket options as it allows holders to access the venue at 9.30 AM rather than 10 AM, when the main gates are opened – we think it’s well worth the extra dollars to get your pick of seat or lawn space.  Disabled access is made available at 9.50 AM via the express lane; there is also curb-side loading and unloading available on Highway 40 (right by the express lane) but space is very limited.
