Winter park ski in ski out

If you’re looking for the ultimate in convenience and comfort at Winter Park Resort, look no further than the upscale, modern ski-in/out vacation rentals in the heart of the Village at Winter Park Resort.

From budget friendly studios, to spacious three bedroom ski condos below the slopes, this is our whistle-stop tour of where to stay at Winter Park Resort.  But first, what’s so great about staying by the slopes at Winter Park Resort?

Top 5 Reasons To Stay In The Village At Winter Park Resort

  1. winter park lift ticketsFirst Chair Made Easy
Freshly groomed corduroy, or deep pillows of powder – whatever your poison, being in position to jump on the first chair after your morning coffee is worth its weight in skiing gold.
  2. Family Flexibility
Skiing with the family is great fun, but keeping everyone happy all day long can be a trying experience.  The beauty of staying in a ski-in/out condo is that multi-ability families can easily adjust ski days to cater to naps, lunch breaks, or an afternoon relaxing by the fire.
  3. Walk The Kids To Ski School
Skis, boots, poles, helmets, goggles, gloves, snacks….getting the kids and all their gear from the parking lot to ski school on time (without tears) is quite the operation.   When you stay in the Village at Winter Park, being able to walk or wagon the kids to various activities makes for a much easier process for all.
  4. Avoid Driving & Parking Drama
Parking at Winter Park Resort is actually pretty good, with lots of shuttle bus free lots available, or paid parking a bit closer to the Village itself.  But if you’re not a fan of driving in the snow, or herding your ski boot clad clan onto the bus every morning, then having skiing, entertainment and activities on your doorstep is a real treat.
  5. Watch The Action From Your Condo
People watching is great.  People watching at the slopes takes it to a whole other level!  Relax on your balcony and watch the last of the day’s skiers snake down the mountainside, or take in the happy vibe of snow revelers enjoying the hidden treasures of the Village at Winter Park.

And let’s not forget about the family-friendly focus of Winter Park Resort, where entertainment and activities abound.  There is a calendar of family events, an array of dining and drinking establishments, unique shopping options, and skating and tubing fun, all within strolling distance of your ski-in/out vacation rental.

Lodging Options In The Village At Winter Park Resort

So, now that you’ve decided to stay at the slopes, which lodging option is best for you?  There are three key rental property options within the Village At Winter Park Resort; there are also larger properties available at Base Camp at Iron Creek and Bridger’s Cache (check back in next week for a spotlight feature on Base Camp & Bridger’s Cache).

Winter Park Blue Runs

Chasing the corduroy on ‘White Rabbit’

What’s Going On In Winter Park: December 12th – 19th, 2017

Four inches of new snow in recent days has given a nice boost to Winter Park’s early season snow pack; and with colder temperatures on the way, the snow-making team at Winter Park Resort have guns-a-blazin’ to give Mother Nature a helping hand.

The Zephyr Express lift is now open, providing access to the Olympia Lift and ‘Alice’ ski runs, as in “Alice in Wonderland.” Explore Alice’s fast and fun groomers like Jabberwocky, Dormouse, March Hare and White Rabbit, and you will have wonder and “Weeee!” as you ski.

Speaking of White Rabbit, both the upper section (Blue or Intermediate) and the lower section (Green or Easiest) are open.   White Rabbit is a wide open cruiser, that runs under the Olympia Lift.   Work on your style points, shake out some of those early-season cobwebs, and get those legs ready for bigger and steeper lines later in the season.

In Colorado, we love the opportunities and adventure that each season offers, but there is a special thrill that comes with the announcement, “Winter Park Ski Resort is open, with lifts running, and snow waiting!” Yes, our first of many ski trips of the season!

Locate the essentials.  Make certain those skis you sadly put away last April are waxed and willing. Our verbal checklist upon departing the house, “Skis, boots, poles, pass.”

With temperatures in the mid-forties and blue skies smiling down, this is the perfect time to check out your equipment and loosen up the muscles for the new ski season.  There were eight lifts already running when we arrived.  We saw people at the base renting equipment to try out for the upcoming snowfall.

Conveniently, right at the base of Winter Park, there was a tent set up for us to try out our RFID ski passes to make certain that everything was current and functioning.  Super simple, before we scurried onto the Arrow lift.

Early skiing.  There are no crowds, plenty of enthusiastic employees, and the calming beauty of a day in the Rocky Mountains.  Our smiles were wide as we took in the views.

    WP Early 2017
It was also fun to see several groups of beginner skiers taking an early season class; working on their skills while the sun still shines and before the truly deep snow descends.

It was a short foray.  Enough to pick up a breakfast burrito from Moffat Market, assemble my accoutrements, and to whet my appetite for the upcoming season of friends and family swooshing down these expansive Winter Park/Mary Jane trails, creating new memories.

    Upcoming Events & Activities:

    First Weekend of December:
    Friday, December 1
    • Model Railroad Christmas Display, Granby, 10am-6pm
    • Festival of Trees, Grand Park County Recreation Center, Fraser, 4-8pm
    • Ullrs Tavern presents the Kyle Hollingsworth Band with guests Haley Jane and the Primates, Winter Park 8pm

    Saturday, December 2

    • Pet pictures with Santa Paws, 10am-1pm, Hideaway Park Bandshell, Main Street/Highway 40 Winter Park
    • Model Railroad Christmas Display, Granby, 10am-6pm

    Sunday, December 3
    • Yoga in Hill House, at Winter Park Resort, 7:30am

The days are still long and the sunshine still plentiful as we enter into August in Winter Park.  There is plenty to do in the beautiful weather and abundant sunshine.

Camp Fire Sing Along: On Wednesday, August 2nd, Visit the Village Gazebo from 4-6 PM to listen to your favorite songs, take in the gorgeous scenery and enjoy a cozy campfire at Winter Park Resort! Free to all who want to enjoy!

High Note Thursdays:  This week’s free musical act is the Home Groove Band, an American Jam band with “tight vocal harmonies and some tasty jams.”  The show begins at 6 at Hideaway Park in Downtown WinterPark.

Free Friday Night Music Series: Head to Winter Park Resort to see Coral Creek this Friday, August 4th from 4-6 PM.  Live performances of “new grass” band Coral Creek have been described as “transporting audiences from the beaches of the Carribean, down to the bayou, and back up to the high in the Colorado Rockies.”

Free Face Painting, Baloon Artist, and Bounce House: Visit Cooper Creek this Saturday for free face painting and balloon artist, as well as kids play area and bouncy house.  Show off your family’s new cranial decore as you explore the shops and restaurants of Winter Park.

Fitness in the Park: Work the kinks out and feel great again this Sunday, August 6th at Hideaway Park from 9-10 am with an hour of yoga with Emily Kuderer, yoga expert of Synergy Collective

    Outdoor Suggestions:

Fly Fishing:  The Colorado and Fraser Rivers have been fishing fantastic with fish attacking terrestrials and great hatches occurring daily.  Get out as the sun comes up to avoid the crowds and up your chances for success.  If none of this makes sense, visit Winter Park Fly Fisher for a local guided trip and mention you’re staying with us to get 10% off your trip.

White Water Rafting:  Local river guides, MAD adventures, are running trips down the upper Colorado for a family fun river adventure.  For a more exciting thrill ride, ask about rafting Clear Creek which is still running at fun flows, not normal for this time of year!  Click here for more info and mention you’re staying with us for 10% off your next trip!

Mountain Biking: The recent rains have kept the dust down and the trails in great shape for the most part.

Local Tip: Be aware that some parts of trails have been washed out from recent heavy rains creating deep ruts down the middle.  Just ride with caution and enjoy.

Local Suggestion:  Plan a loop or three in the Idlewild zone that provides great riding for all ages and ability levels.

    Downhill Mtn Bike

Hiking:  Breathtaking views and trails line the mountains all around and above Winter Park.  Local Tip:  Avoid being caught above treeline during a lightning storm.  If you plan on hiking in the high country check the local forecast before you go.  If you decide to go, go early.  Even on days when there is a low chance of storms we often see storms develop quickly in the afternoon this time of year.

Be sure to check out all of our activities deals with local business partners in the valley allowing you to play your hardest and then of course, rest easy.

It’s Mountain Bike Capital USA Weekend!

It’s all about the dirt as the Colorado Free Ride Festival takes over the trails of Winter Park Resort and conditions couldn’t be better.

Not only have the recent rains calmed the concerns of fire danger, the moisture has turned the dirt on the trails to what is commonly referred to as “BROWN POW” ( A term obsessive mountain bikers use when there is the perfect amount of moister in the trails to make them tacky, much like a skier would describe skiing after it has snowed all night).

To learn more, don’t take it from me, head to the Colorado Free Ride Festival happening all weekend at the resort.  There are events every day from July 26-30th starting as early as 8:00 a.m. and running all the way through the day into the evening.  Must see events include the Green Hornet Kids Race, Maxxis BMX stunt team, intergalactic pond skimming and the Downhill Finals.  Check out the entire line up here

    MTB big air
Along with watching mountain biking, you can also learn mountain biking:

Watching the pros can make mountain biking seem intimidating and not everyone needs to bike like a pro to enjoy it.  Rendezvous Mountain Bike Capital Weekend has set up coaches to help you and your family brush up on their mountain biking skills.  Alison Powers (5 x National Champion, USA Cycling Level 2 coach, grew up in Fraser) along with other high-level mountain bike coaches / professional riders who will offer personalized training and skills clinics for riders of all types and ages.  Learn more about this event here.
Along with learning mountain biking, you can talk about mountain biking:

Participate in the local Headwater Trails Alliance 2nd annual Pub Crawl happening today starting at Five pm. Tickets are $40 and earn you one free drink at each pub stop and door prizes. click here for more information

Charlie Wilson to Step Up and Replace Frankie Beverly and Maze

Sadly, due to personal health issues, Frankie Beverly has had to cancel all of his July tour dates.  Not much information is available pertaining to the 70-year-old singer’s health issues but we wish him a smooth and speedy recovery.

Charlie Wilson has announced that he is stepping in to fill the great shoes of Frankie and Maze for the 2017 Winter Park Jazz Festival!  Charlie, age 64, has had a lifelong music career much like Beverly.  Charlie was the originator and lead singer of The Gap Band formed in the early 1970’s and produced 15 albums before retiring in 2010.

Charlie has since launched a successful solo career producing 8 albums, his latest, In It To Win It, released in February of 2017.  He has recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  Charlie has collaborated with countless to rap, jazz, and rhythm and blues icons such as Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, and Robyn Thicke.  Charlie’s focus and drive is to continue to produce great music and display it live on stage.  In his own words, “It’s championship time!”

Watch below as Uncle Charlie gets down at the 2014 New Orleans Jazz Fest and get excited to see him this Summer at Winter Park Jazz Fest!
