Recreation. Anglers and cyclists, runners and ramblers, swimmers, snowmobilers, and tubers, all have the necessary provisions in close proximity.

Fishing–Fraser River, the first main tributary of the Colorado River, has accessible small to medium-sized stream fishing at a variety of sites. Lion’s Club Fishing Ponds—just south of the Fraser Safeway– stocks two ponds.  One pond is reserved for kids (14 and under) and the disabled. In the same vicinity are the Cozen’s Ranch Open Space Ponds with brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout.

Bicyclingpaths snake their way throughout Grand Valley.  Even in winter you can take a spin on the paved path along the Fraser River Trail.  Have a go on those super fat-tired bikes: rentals are available at Beaver Sports Shop, in Winter Park—reserve at 970-726-5988.

Runners and Walkersjust across the entrance into Cozens Pointe on Old Victory Road, you can link up to the maintained Fraser River Trail.  Turn right when you get to US Hwy 40, and it is only a mile to the Grand Park Community Recreation Center (1 Main Street, phone 970-726-8968). This deluxe center has a full gymnasium, weight room, workout classes, and daycare.

Swimmersthe recreation center is also home to an indoor aquatic center: 20-foot loop slide, lap pool, lazy river, diving board and whirlpool.

TubersFamily fun on nearby tubing hills is a true vacation adventure.  Historic Fraser Tubing Hill (455 County Road 72, phone: 970-726-5954) is open 10 am to 10 pm, seven days a week. Right next door is The Colorado Adventure Park, phone: 970-726-5779.

Snowmobilers.  With over 1,000 miles of snowmobiling trails throughout Grand County,  “Snowmobile Capital of Colorado” ™, has terrain for all levels of thrill-seekers.  Bring your own machines or rent at one of the local outfitters—Grand Adventures has three locations.  The online site will hook you up: www.grandadventures.com

 

Dining and Sipping.  With Fraser only a half mile away, Tabernash less than five miles to the west, and the town of Winter Park just two miles heading back to the east on Hwy 40, there is a treasure trove of dining options.

Fraser has been growing their restaurant scene through the years.  For casual pizzeria dining, try Elevation Pizza, at 551 Zerex Street. They have been serving up Italian-style pizza for the past seven years. There are a couple of solid choices for those craving south-of-the-border fares: Azteca Mexican Restaurant (5 County Road 72) and Julio’s Mexican Grill (745 Zerex) serve the standards and some nice surprises.  Azteca’s Arroz con Pollo is especially tasty, and Julio was spot on in recommending their creamy flan. Sharkey’s Eatery (221 Doc Susie Avenue) is an American café known for their breakfasts and burgers. They will gladly take to-go orders, too: 970-726-TOGO. Sports Bar and mountain dining room all under one roof can be found at Crooked Creek Saloon (401 Zerex Avenue). They also have great soups-of-the day and a salad bar.

Tabernash is the destination of choice for some fine culinary treasures.  Award-winning Tabernash Tavern’s Chef Alberto Sapien cuisine incorporates fresh, seasonal, natural ingredients into meals that are a feast for both eye and mouth.  The rustic building at 72287 US Hwy 40 will delight you with the refined food and wine inside.  Just up the road, in the Devil’s Thumb Ranch complex (3530 County Road 83) there are two other solid choices, Ranch House Restaurant & Saloon and Heck’s Saloon, both serve up meat, fish, and vegetarian options in elegant lodge settings.  

Winter Park, town.  Only two miles away from your stay at Cozens Pointe, every corner, each building level, and any appealing nook will hold some type of fare that is worthy of trying.  There are far too many selections to list here, and several prime choices are covered in our other blogs.  However, from the grand-daddies, Hernando’s Pizza Pub (78199 US Hwy 40) and Deno’s Mountain Bistro (78911 US Hwy 40) to the fresh upstart Pepe Osaka’s Fish Tacos (78707 US Hwy 40) or The Ditch (78941 US Hwy 40), there are options at any price range, fast or leisurely, with a plethora ethnic dishes, sprinkled throughout this fun walk-about town.

Sipping Sites. Also nearby, are several establishments dedicated to the art of fine drinking.  Right along Hwy 40, in downtown Fraser, is our very own Winter Park Winery.  Their beautiful bottles alone are worth the visit. Then you can savor some sips of wine or whiskey at Grapes & Grains in Cooper Creek Square. Also in town, there is Idlewild Spirits and Distillery, holding forth with mellow spirits and creative cocktails in the first Distillery Pub in the U.S.

Again, there is so much more to experience in the forests, towns, and waterways of the Grand Valley, Winter Park areas of Colorado.  This smattering of activities are available right in your Cozens Pointe backyard, venture a bit further, and you will quickly come upon even more possibilities.  Granby, Grand Lake, and Hot Sulphur Springs are wonderful half-day excursions from your Cozens Pointe stay.  Take advantage of the central location and fill your days with adventure or still yourself in the beauty.

New Intereactive Floorplans Make Choosing The Right Vacation Rental Even Easier

Winter Park VacationsWe understand that planning a vacation can be a tricky business: there’s activities to plan, transportation to arrange, equipment to rent, and finding the right vacation rental for all your family’s needs.

At Winter Park Lodging Company, we’re always trying to make the booking process easier, so that you can spend less time trawling through endless websites, and more time planning the fun stuff.

One of the big reasons our guests love to chat with our reservation team during the booking process, is so that they can ask specific questions about the layout of the property.

We understand that most families or groups are going to have specific needs when it comes to sleeping arrangements.  For example, parents are going to want to know the proximity of their room to the kids’ room, guests with mobility challenges are going to want to know how many flights of stairs there are in the property, and multi-family groups are going to be looking for at least two living spaces with entertainment outlets for the children.

Long story short, we recognized the need for floor plans in our property listings.  And not just any old floor plan, we wanted a plan that would take our guests on a virtual tour of our vacation homes, with a birds eye view of the floor plan for each level of the home, plus full color photos.

Partnering with cutting edge floor plan provider TruPlace, we are excited to announce that we have completed floor plans for 30% of our properties currently feature an interactive floor plan, and we intend to have the remaining 70% completed by the end of September.

How do they work?  Simply click on the floor plan button on our property listing and a complete plan of the home will appear on your screen.

An image is shown in the center of the screen, with the floor plan on the right side of the screen.  Now, hover your mouse pointer on different rooms on the floor plan, and you will see the image change to a view of each of the areas you hover on.  You can even see key views from some of the rooms or decks by pausing your mouse on each of the dots.

Notice also, the tabs at the top of the floor plan.  Click on each of the levels (Main, Upper, Lower, All) to see the specific layout of each floor.

Snow Guarantee

Booking an early season ski trip can be a fabulous way to get your ski fix in for a bargain price…and even squeeze in a second trip if (like us) you just can’t get enough powder in your life!

We also understand, that although we are already on track to a great snow season ahead (it’s dumping outside as I write this, it really is), there is always that underlying concern that there might not be as much snow as you you had hoped for, when you book an early stay.

So, what can we do to put your mind at rest?  Lets start with the Winter Park Snow Guarantee.

Yep, you heard right, a snow guarantee; if you book an early season stay, and decide that the snow conditions are not up to your standards, you may reschedule your trip for a stay later in the season.

  1. The snow guarantee is valid for all early season reservations, for stays between November 13th – December 20th, 2013.
  2. If the snow conditions do not meet your standards, you are permitted a one-time opportunity to reschedule your trip (up to 48 hours prior to your reservation check-in time) to the same property, for another time this 2013/14 ski season.
  3. Rescheduling will be made on a space available basis, for the property you originally booked.
  4. The cost of your original reservation will be applied to your new dates, and any difference in price must be paid at the time of re-booking.

Winter Park, CO SIA On-Snow Demo and FestivalSki Industries snow show CO

The SIA On-Snow Demo makes its return to Winter Park and the Fraser Valley for the third year.  The alpine part of the show will be based at Winter Park Resort and the Cross Country will be out at Devil’s Thumb Ranch.

The on snow demo follows the indoor show at the Denver Convention Center that runs from Thursday January 26th to Sunday January 29th.

In conjunction with Western Winter Sports Reps Association’s (WWSRA) Rocky Mountain Demo and in partnership with Cross Country Ski Areas Association (CCSAA), buyers can try out the latest gear for ski, snowboard, AT/tele, backcountry, cross country and snowshoe while all other attendees can get some time on the hill with the brands, reps and media. Attendees of the SIA Snow Show and On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest get free lift tickets and entry to Winter Park and Devil’s Thumb.

The 2nd annual (2011) SIA On-Snow Demo/Ski-Ride Fest at Winter Park Resort and Devil’s Thumb Ranch wrapped up with a record turn-out of 1,750 buyers and two days filled with gear testing, parties and a little competition among friends. The Demo provides the perfect transition onto the slopes after four days of meetings and product demos at the SIA Snow Show in Denver, Colorado. During the two-day Ski-Ride Fest, snow sports retailers and media tested out gear and accessories they just previewed at the Show including ski, snowboard, AT, telemark and backcountry products.

The last two years were packed and lodging was scarce that SIA weekend.  Make sure to book your SIA on snow demo lodging now to get the accommodations you will need.  This year looks to be bigger with more attendees and more new ski and board products.  Plan ahead and plan on a good time at the Winter Park SIAOn-Snow Demo and Festival.

Winter Park Colorado Guest ReviewsWinter Park Lodging Company Guest Reviews

We try not to toot our own horn here Winter Park Lodging Company too much but sometimes you need to scream out that you are doing a darn good job.  We were checking out our guest reviews on Tripadvisor about Winter Park Lodging Company and man we have been feeling some love from our guests.  The best part about these reviews is that in most of them there are mentions of how WPLCo has performed with customer service, problem resolution and overall attitude.  We cannot always control nature, weather and the actions of others but we can control our reactions.

Yippppeeeeee, is what we say, we sometimes cannot anticipate what will happen with the structure and mechanics of a vacation rental condo/home but we can react and deal with the problem should one arise.  Here is to the office, maintenance and cleaning staffs at Winter Park Lodging Company (clap, clap, clap).   Amy, Val, Samantha, Rachel, Christina, Jill, Emily, Ryan, Eric, Sarah and last ,but definitely not least, all the WPLCo cleaning crews deserve a big congratulations.  Nice work Y’all!

With the incredibly cold spell we had early this month we had some issues with pipes and heat and such but the team WPLCo responded admirably in all cases.  Here is what one of our Tripadvisor reviews had to say:

We had 3 families with 6 adults and 5 elementary age kids staying here. There was room to spread out and be together. Each family even had it’s own bathroom, but the kitchen living room was big enough for all of us to be in at once.
We were supposed to be in a different place that’s pipes burst. The WP Lodging Co. was great about finding us this house (a great upgrade) and communicating the problem (even though we were skiing all day without our phones on) I was pleasantly surprised how great they were about getting us a new place that could accommodate our large group on such short notice and without us being available. We would use their service again!

And here is another great review for Winter Park Lodging Company with a condo unit at the Zephyr Mountain Lodge:

We have stayed in several different condos at Zephyr and this one is the best so far. We had four adults and two six-year-olds. The extra seating in the living area was perfect and provided plenty of room to spread out and relax. The two bathrooms were very large and the extra bunk beds in the master were perfect for us. The condo was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed during our stay. It was easy to get in and out to access the village. The only negative is that you can hear the garbage and delivery trucks in the morning because of the room’s location but that did not bother any of us. We also did not use the ski lockers because it was a little harder to get the kids gear out to the slopes. This was easily solved by using Winter Park Rental’s free slopeside overnight storage closer to the Kids’ School area for our skis. However, it would be perfect for adults or older kids who could handle their equipment. You can glide out the door and right down to the Zephyr lift.

This is the second year that we have used Winter Park Lodging and the experience was great. Everyone is helpful and the process is easy. We’ve used other booking companies for Winter Park before but I will never use anyone but Winter Park Lodging Company again.

Here we toot away at the great job that Winter Park Lodging Company has been doing!  So if you happen to talk to one of the WPLCo office ladies or Maintenance men or cleaning crews expect to be WOWed with some great customer service.

The 71st Anniversary season at Winter Park Resort will be celebrated with over 1,200 Nature Valley NASTAR qualifiers from across the country coming here to the Colorado Rockies for three days of competition, exciting events and world-class skiing and riding.

The top three finishers in each division at each of the NASTAR resorts will come to Winter Park to compete in the NASTAR National Championships.  With over 95,000 races in 28 states the NASTAR champions will be decided on the slopes of Winter Park.
