la collinaDiscover this little treasure of a restaurant tucked away in the quiet confines of the Iron Horse Resort.  Perfectly appointed for Base Camp guests in particular, La Collina is part Italian kitchen, part wine bar, with an effortlessly cool vibe, and a menu that will keep you coming back for more.

Chef Federico Fassola and owner/sommelier John Benson, aim to provide their guests with an authentic Italian dining experience, in an unpretentious and welcoming environment.  With a priority on fresh, seasonally available ingredients, they offer a daily happy hours (4pm-6pm), followed by a full evening menu of antipasta, cicchetti (small plates), house made pastas, and gourmet entrees.

Wine and specialty beer connoisseurs will not be left disappointed either.  Nightly 3 course tasting menus are available with wine and beer pairings; and for those who prefer to make their own selections, over 25 carefully selected Italian wines are available by the glass.

Located in the Iron Horse Resort main building, La Collina is a 3 minute stroll from Winter Park Lodging Company’s Base Camp properties, and approximately 1/4 mile on the free winter shuttle route from Winter Park Resort Base Village.

Winter Perk Espresso

winter perkFor all of those still mourning the departure of the Winter Park Rocky Mountain Roastery, there’s a shiny new hot spot in town that will have you jumping with caffeinated joy.  Located on the main street of downtown Winter Park (where ‘The Shed’ used to be), Winter Perk has already been receiving rave reviews on their specially crafted coffees, service, and funky vibe.

Conscious of the need to accommodate ever increasing allergy restrictions and special diets, the coffee house has a ton of different blending ingredients to choose from (including coconut milk, almond milk, soy, & hemp milk), and uses quality roasted coffee from Rocky Mountain Roasters.  For the non-coffee drinkers, they offer delicious bhakti chai, assorted herbal teas, hot chocolate and caramel apple cider.  Feeling peckish?  Winter Perk has teamed up with local bakery Rise & Shine, to offer a selection of freshly made pastries and cakes, to enjoy with your brew.

There are a number of small, cozy seating areas on offer (with free wi-fi) if you want to stay a while and chill; or if you’re anxious to hit the slopes, you can grab your coffee on the fly via the drive-thru window.

Volario – Vasquez Creek Inn – Coming Soon!

Devils THumb restaurant in winter parkDevil’s Thumb Ranch will soon be expanding its reach to downtown Winter Park, with the eagerly anticipated opening of Vasquez Creek Inn.    Located directly opposite Hideaway Park, in the fully remodeled, former Gasthaus Eichler residence, Vasquez Creek Inn will feature Volario, an Italian inspired eatery with riverside patio.

We don’t have a firm opening date as yet, but when it does, we strongly recommend you pay it a visit.  Devil’s Thumb Ranch does not do things in half measures, so we are expecting great things from this new downtown restaurant.
