Fraser rated Best Secret Ski Town of North America

The Secret’s Out

Visit fraserNational Geographic has recently named Fraser as one of it’s Top 10 Best Secret Ski Towns Of North America.  Here’s what they have to say….

Fraser, Colorado.  Best For: Adventurous families with a taste for top-of-the-world skiing

‘Fraser is an anomaly in the resort-packed northern half of Colorado—a humble, affordable town in the shadow of a premier ski area. Somehow managing to skirt the popular radar, this railroad town of 910 maintains the air of a funky, back-of-beyond Western hamlet even though it’s only 70 miles from Denver. You don’t come here for the nightlife scene, unless you count the illuminated tubing hill on the slopes behind town. But there’s a great pizza shop, saloon, bowling alley/movie theater/bar, and a ski shop, Joe’s Backcountry Repair, that will hand-tune your planks. You can also still take the train here, with a small Amtrak station right in town.

Five miles up the road, its runs visible from town, is Winter Park Resort, a complex, sprawling ski area with 3,081 acres of terrain, 3,060 feet of vertical, and 25 lifts…..click here to continue reading the article.

Fly fishing in winter parkWe completely agree that Fraser is one of those rare hidden gems that sparkle beneath the snow.  Even more secret is its easy capacity to wow its’ residents and visitors throughout the summer months.   With stunning vistas, endless network of mountain bike trails, weekly music concerts in the park, and near-by fly fishing and horseback riding, Fraser just keeps on getting better.

One of our favorite Fraser features is the Fraser River trail, that meanders its way along the river bank between Winter Park and Fraser .  Summer or winter, it’s a wonderful hike to take the family on and a great area to spot moose, beaver and birds of prey.   In the warmer months, mild eddies along the river offer a perfect place to tease a trout on the end of your fly rod, and the 1.5 mile, gently graded path is a wonderful training area for the young cyclist.   In the winter, the well traveled foot path offers wonderful views of the surrounding mountains beyond the sparkling willows that line the river bank.
