Description of the Winter Park Area

Winter Park is part of the beautiful Fraser Valley.  Surrounded by the magnificent Continental Divide and host to the Fraser River, the Fraser Valley is home to nature in abundance.  There are four main areas:  the Village at Winter Park Resort, Old Town Winter Park, Downtown Winter Park and finally, Fraser.

Check out the lay of the land, below, and don’t miss our maps & videos of Winter Park.

The Village at Winter Park Resort

This is where you’ll find the ski slopes during the winter and the Trestle Bike Park & alpine slide during the summer.  The Winter Park Village has four ski-in/ski-out or walk-in/walk-out condominium buildings: The Village Lofts, Zephyr Mountain Lodge, Fraser Crossing and Founder’s Pointe. Just outside of the Village are the Base Camp on Jane Creek town homes, which are luxury town homes with a special ski trail just a short walk away. See our ski-in/ski-out rentals to view photos and amenities.

Also at Winter Park Village are about ten restaurants and cafes, including the Cheeky Monk, Doc’s Roadhouse, Starbucks, Goody’s Creperie & Ice Cream and the Pizza Peddl’r. For your ski and snowboard rentals right at the base, there is Winter Park Resort Rentals and Showcase Snowboards. There’s also an outdoor ice skating rink and a variety of other shops. Old Town Winter Park

Old Town Winter Park is located just outside of the Winter Park Resort Village, just 1/3 mile north on Hwy 40. This is where you’ll find Winter Park Place condos, Trademark town homes and the Lakota neighborhood. All of these lodging options are on the shuttle route and are just a five to ten minute walk to the Winter Park Resort base area.

There is one restaurant in Old Town and a couple of ski rental shops, but other than that it’s mostly residential. The Fraser Valley River Trail also starts in Old Town on Trademark Drive. It’s a beautiful, easy trail for hiking or biking with the Fraser River running along side. View a Street Map of Old Town, which also shows the Fraser River Trail and the Winter Park Resort base area.

Downtown Winter Park

About two miles past Old Town, you’ll arrive to Downtown Winter Park. A festive area with Cooper Creek Square Mall and Hideaway Park, it’s where most shopping and restaurants are located.  Hideaway Park is a great park with a free sledding hill, skate park and live outdoor music venue. There is a good variety of restaurants and bars, including Carver’s Bakery, Hernando’s Pizza, the Winter Park Pub and the Winter Park Sushi Bar.

You’ll find our office in downtown, as well as the Hi Country Haus condos, Trailhead Lodge condos, the Telemark town homes, Sawmill Station town homes and Red Quill Village. These are all on the main street or just a block away from the main street, so they’re walking distance to the shops, restaurants and Hideaway Park in downtown.

Also within this area, but just up the hill from main street and approaching Arapahoe National Forest, you’ll find more lodging, such  as our Elk Run Cabin, Pine Cone Cabin, Snowshoe House. There’s also another town park, Wolf Park.  Almost all of the downtown Winter Park lodging options are on the free winter shuttle route to the ski slopes.

Fraser and Beyond

The last main town in the Fraser Valley is the residential town of Fraser, two miles from downtown Winter Park and five miles from the Winter Park Resort. This is where the majority of locals live and where you’ll find the most economical lodging. You’ll find the Safeway grocery store, Alco Shopping Center, the Fraser Tubing Hill and a handful of restaurants and shops. Lodging accommodations such as Waterside West, Meadow Ridge, The Timbers and Grandview are located in Fraser.

Most of the homes and condos are located on a ridge just up the hill from downtown Fraser. The area is generally a bit more quiet. If you’re looking for a little more seclusion, but don’t want to be far from the slopes, it’s a great option. If you continue on Hwy 40 past Fraser, you’ll go through Tabernash, then Granby, Hot Sulpher Springs, and Kremmling. Grand Lake is accessed from the turnoff onto Hwy 34 in Granby.
