Winter Park Resort
It’s not called Colorado’s Favorite for nothin’. Only 65 miles from Denver, Winter Park Resort has been the Colorado local’s favorite escape to the mountains ever since the massive seven-mile Moffat Tunnel was constructed in the 1920′s, the first major link between Denver to the Western Slope.
Since then, Winter Park has grown into one of the state’s largest ski areas, with greatly varied terrain, one of largest skiable acreage and some of the longest ski runs you’ll find.

SolVista Basin
Just thirty minutes from Winter Park is a smaller ski area called SolVista. It’s much smaller, but that being said, you’ll find smaller crowds during peak times and an ideal place for families and beginner skiers, with all trails ending at one base area. Actually, they claim you won’t find a more family-friendly ski resort anywhere. You just won’t find the legendary bumps of Mary Jane or the variety of terrain as at Winter Park Resort.
The one thing that SolVista’s got that Winter Park Resort lacks is night skiing. They don’t have night skiing every day, but about once a month corresponding to the full moon. The Winter Park Visitor Center can tell you exactly what dates after Dec 16th, 2009, just call 800-903-7275 or email visitorcenter@playwinterpark.com.
