End of ski season Winter Park Mary Jane

Spring Splash at Winter Park Resort

The Coca Cola® Spring Splash is April 22nd this year celebrating the end of the 72nd ski season at Winter Park Resort.  Spring Splash is a party at both sides of the Resort at Winter Park and Mary Jane.

On the Winter Park side:

Winter Park Resort’s Coca-Cola® Spring Splash is the oldest tradition of its kind and on its 44th year. Athletes begin at noon as spectators watch skiers and riders struggle through obstacles on the Larry Sale trail race course and attempt to skim across an icy pond to reach the finish line and post a time. Live music sets the tone for a closing day party that is fun for everyone! This is a family friendly fun time with music, giveaways with a festival like atmosphere.

On the Mary Jane Side:

It is rockin’ with a center stage and makeshift tail gate parties that lasts from early in the day till past sundown.  Lots of locals sharing their best bbq, adult beverages and celebrating the end to another ski season is what you get at the Challenger lift just up from the base of Mary Jane.  Jane side is not for the faint of heart as you will see all the good and bad of the youthful ski culture of today.

Make sure to get your spot picked out early on either the Winter Park or Mary Jane side as  there is a very large crowd on both sides by 11am.

Looking for Winter Park Spring Splash lodging be sure to book now to get your first choice of accommodations.

Spring Skiing Winter Park Mary Jane

The weather is starting to warm up some here Winter Park and we are in our snowiest month of the year, March. This means that the famous Colorado spring skiing is knocking at the door.

With the slow start of the snow falling this year this should can we will be getting great snow from mid March thru the very end of April and probably beyond into May.  Not a great thing to hear for a mountain bike perspective but it should make for some of the best spring skiing conditions in years.

Spring is the best time of year to visit Winter Park Mary Jane Resort.  The skies are blue and there is nothing more fun than Après on the patio of Lunch Rock or Club Car on the Jane side.

Lodging at Winter Park Resort is a great deal come April and most of the crowds are staying down in the lowlands.  For those wanting to get the best skiing of the year spring is the time to head up to Winter Park.

The Winter Park Spring Splash is April 22 this year of 2012 and that is a day not to be missed.  Usually great skiing and some of the best snow of the year should be around if things go as they have the last few years.  March is the snowiest month here in WP and April is usually the third snowiest month of the year so there is always plenty of good skiing come springtime.

Check out the Winter Park Resort Lodging Lodging Deals and book now to get your first pick on your Mary Jane spring skiing vacation lodging digs.

When you see two guys skiing in jock straps, you know something crazy must be going on. Not to mention a bunch of people lining up to ski an obstacle course with a pond at the finish line. At least the guy in the bunny costume was thinking about staying warm and dry!

Happy Spring Splash Winter Park. Mud season has officially started with the end of the fabulous 2010/2010 ski season. What a celebration. Now, let the sun shine, the trails dry quickly and the mountain biking begin!

Winter Park Resort April Skiing

Looking for the best month of the year to ski in Colorado? Well that would be April in my opinion.  The weather is a little warmer and there are some glorious days with a nice white blanket of snow overnight and a sunny blue sky day for what we here would call a bluebird day.

The deals on lodging and lift tickets always seem to pop up in late April and the big spring-break crowds of March fade away.  Want to celebrate spring?  There is no way better than to spend an the afternoon after a day of skiing on one of Winter Parks glorious decks with a beer in hand.  Need some deck suggestions?  Well, we have The Sushi Bar, Derailer, Doc’s Roadhouse, The Cheeky Monk, Fontenot’s and these are the places not on the ski hill.  On the the Winter  Park Resort ski hills I would suggest Snowoasis, Sunspot or Club Car at the bottom of Mary Jane.

The snow report is saying we are in for a bunch more snow before this ski season comes to an end.  Here is what our favorite snow forecast site (Snowforecast.com) is saying about the rest of March and April snow at Winter Park Resort:

There is a break in weather/ snow possible after next Tuesday/ Wednesday’s storm, then another shot at snow possible for the last weekend in March (27th/ 28th). Pacific storms (with snow) should move through with good frequency right into April. The rest of April still looks potentially snowy (what we mean by “snowy” – at least 1 day with snow for every 2 sunny/ no snow days).

Don’t forget about the best day of the year in Winter Park, the Winter Park Spring Splash, April 18th this year.  A day of fun, debauchery and a celebration of the ski season gone past.  A day that should not be missed by anyone that has a love for skiing and Winter Park, Colorado.

Aahhhhh!! this is going to be cold!

Spring Slash is coming upon us soon.  On April 19th the official Coca-Cola Winter Park Spring Splash, celebrating the last day the ski resort is open, will mark it’s 41st year.  Wow!  I guess they started it the year I was born.  The race will start at noon at the base of Winter Park with the athletes rideing and skiing the lower part of Larry Sale.  Registeration starts at 8:30am the day of the race.  There will be live music in the plaza from 2:30pm to 6:00pm.  It is a great day for the whole family to celebrate the close of an awesome ski season.  Details can be found at the Winter Park Fraser Chamber of Commerce website http://www.winterpark-info.com/index.aspx?sectionDirectory=events&eventID=1915

Over on the Mary Jane side of the resort is the unofficial Spring Splash.  Not for the whole family, this is the locals way of saying lets get it on summer!  Live music, lots of BBQ and more adult beverages than can be named.  This is a rip roaring good time and it isn’t so tame.  Very crowded later in the day and the Winter Park/Fraser Police have showed up the last few years so be sure to get a ride from the Valley Taxi guys.  Their website is http://www.winterparktaxi.com/
