Colorado Adventure Park Winter Park, Colorado

Have you been sledding at the Fraser Tubing Hill recently.  There is a new company over behind the Alco store and they are providing some fancy tubing.  The place is called Colorado Adventure Park it is a great experience for the whole family.  And I mean the whole family.  We spent a morning on ugh etudes with the four year old twins and the grandparents, that is from four to seventy nine years old.

Colorado Adventure Park is Grand County’s newest, fastest, largest and safest adventure park. With excitement in mind CAP proudly offesr a variety of activities to satisfy every guests quest for adventure.  In addition to tubing and sledding the Park offers snow scoots and a soon to open terrain park.

The snow scoots are for kids seeking speed and a little competitive fun. A Snow Scoot is a Polaris 120 snowmobile for kids ages six and up and under 130 pounds. The Snow Scoots are ridden along a groomed track in the meadow at the Colorado Adventure Park. Snow Scoots are in operation from 10am to 6pm.

The terrain park will open in February 2012 and is for the young one that are looking to improve their terrain park skill in a safe and fun setting.  If you are looking to do more tricks and the ski area is closed, come by Colorado Adventure Park and enjoy our terrain park under the lights and all day long.

Tubing, snow scoots and the terrain park require helmets so be sure to bring yours or you can rent one at the Adventure Park.  There is a concessions stand and beer and wine is served.  They even have a fire pit with smores kits available.

If you are looking to spend a day away from Winter Park and Mary Jane head out to the Colorado Adventure Park for a day of thrill for all.

Grand Adventures in Winter Park has new snowmobiles!

Grand Adventures, our local go-to for snowmobiling in Winter Park, has purchased brand new fleets of snowmobiles for the winter season! The new snowmobiles are 2 seater Yamaha Venture Lites (for guided tours) and 1 seater Yamaha Phazers (for unguided tours). Here are the specs, with translation for those of you who aren’t professionals: Phazers

Fourstroke: Quieter, more efficient, and larger than two stroke engines. Also, the professionals over at Grand Adventures tell me  you won’t get any of the fumes that come with two stroke engines.

Ergonomic: They are designed to fit your body, resulting in a super comfortable ride that requires less work from you.

Smoother acceleration: So you don’t have to deal with whiplash while you’re cruising on the continental divide at almost 12,000 feet

Heavier: In the words of the Grand Adventures professionals again, this means that the snowmobiles “won’t dance around, but will plow through the snow.”

AND, these new snowmobiles burn 1/2 as much fuel, making them more environmentally friendly. Plus, they’re quieter, making it easier for you to get a good look at all the wildlife you might run into.

Check out Grand Adventures’ website: http://www.grandadventures.com/ for more information on rentals, tours, rates, and more. Snowmobiling really is one of the most fun ways to check out some incredible views of the mountains and Winter Park, not to mention being quite a bit easier than hiking up a mountain in the middle of winter. Have fun!

Elk Creek – Secret Sledding Hill

Got some inside scoop the other day on a sweet place to sled where the locals go. It’s called Elk Creek and it’s easy to find.   Turn left at the stoplight in Fraser and drive PAST the tubing hill. About a mile down the road, the road dead ends. Park and walk straight and you’ll see a nice sledding hill with probably no one on it!

Here’s a photo of us trying it out this week. You will need your own sled though (or most of our rental properties have sleds in them for you to use).
