Fraser Valley Hot Dog, Brats and Mixed Grill

On my search for the best burger in the Winter Park, Colorado area I came across absolutely the best hot dogs and brats. Fraser Valley Chicago Style Dogs serves some great dogs, brats and other tasty grilled vittles.

As I was planning on hitting the last of the candidates for best burger in WP I saw on Fraser Valley Hot Dog’s FaceBook page they were offering a $6.00 Elk Brat. What a deal and I had it Fozzy Dog style, that is covered with blu cheese, bacon and caramelized onions with a side of chips and a drink. Yummmm! Great lunch and very easy on the wallet.

We are still working on that best burger contest and hope to have that done by this weekend. But of you are looking for a killer dog done by a WP local go see Matt at Fraser Dog and get the Fozzy. You will not be disappointed.

Trestle Bike Park Lessons, Trestle 101

Trestle Bike Park 101

Team Winter Park Lodging Company had a chance to visit Trestle Bike Park this weekend and we were able to take a downhill biking 101 class. What a treat to have personal teacher to teach us the ins and outs of the downhill sport.

Winter Park Resort was nice enough to set us up with the 101 lesson and bike rentals for the day. Our instructor David Deveny was great! Kowledgeable, fun and talented; David knows Trestle Bike Park and downhill biking very well. He was safe, enlightening and a lot of fun.

The day started out as the Trestle Bike shop was opening its doors at 9am. We were quickly helped in line after filling our info out ob the resort computer kiosks. We were then sent over to the equipment fitting station and were on our way with gear in 10 min. Over to the bike area we went and we were fitted with some sweet Kona Stinky Bikes that would be our vehicle of fun for the day.

After little talk from David we were on our way up the Zephyr lift. Right outside Sunspot David gave all the instruction that we would use on this day in about half an hour (see David above instructing new WPLCo employee Bill). From there Sunspot we were onto the green run Greenworld. We then hit Long Trail (lue Run) and parts of Rainmaker (black run).

They day ended at around Noon and that was enough riding and instruction for the day. What a blast of a day and I can not stress how useful a Trestle 101 class is to learn the downhill sport safely.

We here at Winter Park Lodging Company thought we should start a little best of project for the Winter Park and Fraser area. We would like some reader/fan participation and even participation of our fellow business her in the WP area. How we thought this would work is that WPLCo comes up with a category…. say best place for a beer, or best hamburger… whatever category and our reader/fans can suggest the favorites. WPLCo research crew, me and whoever is lucky enough to be in tow, will try the top three suggested and rate them accordingly. Sound like fun? Well, it will pass some of the time away before the start of this ski season.

So our first category on the best of Winter Park/Fraser project is, as you can tell from the tittle, what restaurant has the best burger in the Winter Park area? Lots of restaurants here with some great burgers but what one are the top three and of those who has the big whopper of the burger here in Winter Park?

With a just a quick glance at the burger landscape in WP I would have to say that those that would need to be tried would be Deno’s, Devils Thumb Ranch House, Bistro 28 at Pole Creek Golf Club, The Library and Randi’s. We do have a McDonald’s here in WP and there is something to be said for a Big Mac and the Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

Deno’s of Winter Park, CO Awarded Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

To all you wine lovers out there, Deno’s received the “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator magazine. This Winter Park favorite is one of only 25 restaurants in Colorado to receive the prestigious award. Denos’s prviously had won the award multiple times in the 1990′s and earl 2000′s.

Deno’s Mountain Bisto wine list was noted for its strengths in California, French and Italian selections.

Deno’s Mountain Bistro is a place where all are welcome and everyone can relax. Nothing fancy – no valet parking or maitre d’ in a tuxedo – the world is stressful enough without adding to it with pretentious restaurant behavior.

Summer is here and it is time to make your plans to come up and see some of the great music that will be going on all summer. WPLCo is offering a “package” deal for bookings made for the Winter Park Music Festival (aka Bret Michaels weekend). The weekend is August 6 & 7 in case you aren’t already in the know and have your 80’s costume planned.

Winter Park TreadFest 2011

Winter Park, CO Bicycle Festival

The Winter Park Fat Tire Classic is being replaced by the TreadFest! The first annual TreadFest will take place in Winter Park, Colorado on July 9th, 2011.

Come experience beautiful Winter Park and the Fraser Valley on Saturday, July 9th at TreadFest 2011, a mountain bike fundraising event benefiting the National Sports Center for the Disabled and the American Red Cross. This event at Winter Park Resort will be in conjunction with the Epic Singletrack Race Series #3 Valley Point-to-Point and will feature supported trails that will be available to participants of all skill levels, from the family of recreational riders to those adventure-seekers looking for a challenge. All participants will have entry to the A Grateful Tread Festival with live music, beer from Avery Brewing, food and an Expo area. Grab your friends and form a team to compete for team fundraising, costume and member awards. Terrific prizes are being awarded to those individuals who reach distinguished fundraising levels, so join the fun and register today!

TreadFest 2011 routes will be held on Winter Park’s Westside, including Corona Pass, Buck Creek, Pond Trail, Broken Thumb, Fraser River Trail and Idlewild!

This extensive network of supported trails will provide breathtaking views and a fun day for riders of all abilities.

Bret Michaels Coming to Winter Park, CO – Summer 2011

Winter Park, CO Music Festival with Bret Michaels of Poison Fame

Who is ready to sing “every rose has it’s thorn” ? Bret Michaels, of Poison fame, is headlining the Winter Park Music Festival on August 6th and 7th, 2011. The Winter Park Music Festival is presented by Denver radio station 103.5 The Fox.

Saturday, August 6th Warrant, Skid Row and The Groove Hawgs will be on stage at Hideaway Park right off of US Highway 40 in the town of Winter Park, CO. Saturday’s show kicks off at noon and will go to 6pm. On Sunday, August 7th Bret Michaels and the Groove Hawgs will be rockin’ it out from noon until 3pm.

Hideaway Park is a great place to see live music. Surround by the peaks of the Colorado Rocky Mountains with great seating and sound and right in walking distance of all Winter Park has to offer. Prices for the show have not been announced but we will keep you informed when that information becomes available.

Trestle Bike Park Expands for 2011

Colorado’s best and biggest downhill bike park is getting even bigger for the 2011 summer bike season. More lifts, updated trails and more features will welcome riders to the fastest growing bike park in the world for a great looking summer season.

Winter Park Resort’s Trestle Bike Park has announced expansion and new developments for the upcoming 2011 summer season. Plans include trail updates, added features and jumps for all abilities, three lifts planned to spin in 2011, signing the well-known and respected rider, Ross Schnell, to the Trestle Bike Park team and adding the New Trestle All-Mountain Enduro Race to the summer schedule.

Terrain Expansion and Lifts - Downhill riders will find additional features and a massive expansion that puts the Trestle Bike Park master plan one year ahead of schedule! These include banked cruisers, table-top jumps, elevated stunts, and drops to challenge seasoned Trestle riders. Trestle will change the lift structure in 2011, now offering three lifts instead of two: Zephyr Express, Eskimo, and the Gemini Lift (operating Friday through Sunday).

Winter Park Lodging Company has won the ZB award. What is the ZB award you ask? Well, the Zb award the most creative use of the Winter Park/Fraser Valley mascot ZB. And why is our mascot named ZB here in Winter Park, Colorado? ZB is the original Colo license plate numbers that were given for Winter Park and the Fraser Valley ( see picture to the right).

The Grand Park Rec Center – Winter Park, CO

Ohhh, the cold has hit us here in Winter Park. It has been almost too cold to ski, almost. For the kids though when it dips to the negatives or hoovers around the zero degree mark it may be better to take a day of and let that arctic cold front just move on through.

And what to do with that day not spent on the ski slopes? The Grand County Recreation Center is the answer to that day not on the skis or board. There is not a better way to get away from the cold than our state of the art rec center right on Winter Park’s main street. Here is some of the specifics of the facilities at Grand Park Recreation Center:
