We have the first snow in Winter Park! September 21st, 2009 is the day and we have two winners.  Wendy and Heather come on down you two are the lucky winners of Winter Park Lodging Company’s Winter Park first snow contest.

The evidence is clear as you can see in the photos and we have official word that the resort received more than three inches at mid-mountain.  Not just yesterday, but today it is snowing even harder and the fore-cast calls for snow the next couple of days also.  We are gearing up for ski season here in Winter Park.  Crazy, seems like we were having a great summer just three days ago.  Well, now that we have snow on the ground let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

The time is now to book your 2009/10 ski lodging.  It is an El Nino year so we are looking for lots of snow without the bone chilling temperatures.

Winter Park Resort: Snow on the Ground!

Snow in Winter Park, ColoradoSnow at Winter Park Resort

That’s right we got snow today up in Winter Park!  It has been snowing off and on all day and it definitely feels like winter is starting to nudge fall out of the way.  No, we didn’t get as much snow as the picture on the left but we did get some sticking to the ground, yes a measurable amount.  The “when will it first snow in Winter Park contest” is over and a winner will be announced here shortly.

It was great summer up here in WP but it was a nice sight to wake up to some snow on the ground and a cold chill in the air.  Nothing like a some white stuff on the ground to get the skiing juices flowing.  Winter Park Resort opens November 18th, 2009 and that is not a day too soon.  That means there are only 58 days until the Resort opens, but who is counting?  ME, I am.  If today’s weather forecast is any indication we are in for a lot of snow this winter.  El Nino 2006 brought a whole bunch powder our way and here is hoping for a bunch for El Nino winter 2009/2010.

Now is the time to reserve your Winter Park ski lodging.  Remember until the end of September it is only 25% down to reserve your Winter Park, Colorado vacation lodging.

Farmer’s Almanac Says “Lots of Snow and Mild Temps” for Winter Park this Ski Season

Get Ready for a Big, Snowy Winter

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, we are going to have milder than average temperatures with higher than average snow fall. Sounds great to me! It should be an early start with snow starting accumulating early in November and falling all through late January. Things will cool down in February, keeping the snow from falling, but then it will pick up again for March and April. Whatever the winter brings, we will be having fun up here in Winter Park. Get your vacation booked early to guarantee you have the perfect spot.  Things are filling up fast!

Winter Park Snowfall | Update to First Measurable Snow Contest

Here is an update to our “guess the first measurable snowfall in Winter Park” contest.  We will be using On the Snow’s website for Winter Park Resort as the first measurable snow barometer.  Sorry to Winter Park Resort and Intrawest for saying their snow report was lame.  They have a great website and snow report page, it is just that there is now no skiing at the resort so they have not updated their snow-report since last season.

We have 34 guesses so far and judging by the looks of the weather today it might snow sooner rather than later this year.

86 days until Winter Park Resort opens, get your skis and body ready!

Snow in Winter Park Colorado | When will we have the first measurable snow?

winter park ski vanI know its only August but it has hit below 30°f  the last three mornings and is starting to get chilly at night here in Winter Park, Colorado.  So I’m wondering when is the usual first measurable snowfall in the Winter Park/Fraser area?  I did a Google and Bing search and couldn’t find much info.  So to make it interesting I thought we could have a little contest that whoever can pick the day  that Winter Park Resort gets their first measurable snowfall then it is two free lift tickets to that person.  Anyone can play but the guess obviously needs to be in before the snow.  For lack of a better source we will use the Winter Park Resort Snow Report from their website, even though it is lame and says they have had 26.5 inches of snow in the last 24 hours (this being August 13th).  They must be in a different world, I’m just down the road and no snow here since late May.  Anywho, 2 free lift tickets or, for those who have Winter Park ski passes, free dinner and drinks for two at a Winter Park Restaurant for he or she that can pick the first measurable snow at Winter Park Resort.  I will be the first one to pick!  Only one guess per person and your first guess is it.

The ski season is coming upon us, only 97 days until the projected opening.  Come up and ski Winter Park.  Get your Winter Park ski lodging now!

Winter Park Colorado Snow Forecast|El Niño Packs A Wallop For 2010

Winter Park El Nino 2010The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released an article on July 9th, stating that they “expect this El Niño to continue developing during the next several months, with further strengthening possible. The event is expected to last through winter 2009-10.”

So what in the world does that mean for us? Since the Colorado Rockies have enjoyed exceptional snowfall during past El Niño winters, it means there’s a great chance that Winter Park has an exceptional powder-filled winter on its way. Cross your fingers for tons of snow for us this winter. And think ahead for lodging in Winter Park so you can come enjoy the white stuff!

Winter Park Snow Report

winter-park-snowflakeAs I’m looking out at the blizzard that has engulfed Winter Park I was wondering how much of the white flufffy stuff are we going to get from this storm.  This led me to Google the Winter Park snow report to get the official lowdown on the snow totals.  Anywho, what I’m trying to say is that snowforecast.com is the best snow indicator out there on the web for Winter Park/Mary Jane.  What they are showing is this doozy of a storm will drop about a foot a powder on top of the two feet we have gotten in the last week.  It may be spring down in the lowlands but up here in the Rockies it is the best time of year to ski.  Check out Winter Park Lodging by Owners top ten reasons to ski in April!  Come on up and get your last turns of the year in under our Colorado blue skies and don’t forget that the Winter Park Spring Splash is on April19th.  After April13th adults ski for $40 and kids for $25.  Mention you saw the Winter Park Loding by Owner winter park snow report blog and get your 4th night free.

April is the locals’ favorite month to ski.  This year, the resort is open until April 19th! Most everyone else is thinking since it’s warm in their city, it must not be good skiing in the mountains. Not true and here’s why. Our Top 10 List of why you should visit Winter Park in April:

1) April is the 2nd highest snowfall month of the year in Winter Park.

2) Average temperature in April is a high of 44 degrees. Throw the fleece on and ski in your long sleeve t-shirt!

3) Winter Park Lodging By Owner has sweet lodging deals. Stay 3 nights and get the 4th free.

4) Lift lines are short if any! All of the Spring Breakers have gone home and you have free reign of the mountain.
