Colorado Adventure Park Winter Park, Colorado

Have you been sledding at the Fraser Tubing Hill recently.  There is a new company over behind the Alco store and they are providing some fancy tubing.  The place is called Colorado Adventure Park it is a great experience for the whole family.  And I mean the whole family.  We spent a morning on ugh etudes with the four year old twins and the grandparents, that is from four to seventy nine years old.

Colorado Adventure Park is Grand County’s newest, fastest, largest and safest adventure park. With excitement in mind CAP proudly offesr a variety of activities to satisfy every guests quest for adventure.  In addition to tubing and sledding the Park offers snow scoots and a soon to open terrain park.

The snow scoots are for kids seeking speed and a little competitive fun. A Snow Scoot is a Polaris 120 snowmobile for kids ages six and up and under 130 pounds. The Snow Scoots are ridden along a groomed track in the meadow at the Colorado Adventure Park. Snow Scoots are in operation from 10am to 6pm.

The terrain park will open in February 2012 and is for the young one that are looking to improve their terrain park skill in a safe and fun setting.  If you are looking to do more tricks and the ski area is closed, come by Colorado Adventure Park and enjoy our terrain park under the lights and all day long.

Tubing, snow scoots and the terrain park require helmets so be sure to bring yours or you can rent one at the Adventure Park.  There is a concessions stand and beer and wine is served.  They even have a fire pit with smores kits available.

If you are looking to spend a day away from Winter Park and Mary Jane head out to the Colorado Adventure Park for a day of thrill for all.

Winter Park/Faser Snow Tubing Hill

Fraser Sledding HillFraser sled and tubing hill

I have seen the slopes of the Fraser snow tubing hill many times on the way home from Winter Park to Tabernash.  There behind our own little monument to American fast food, KFC and Taco Bell, sits the Fraser Snow Tubing Hill.  The operation looks quite impressive with the slope lit in the evening and the tubes flying down.  A good friend has even said that it is very fun, almost scary how fast you fly down.

I have to say, though, we have never tried the sled hill out.  I had a hard time envisioning twin one year olds enjoying the rush down the hill.  So this year we will give a report on the experience with two year olds.  Sitting down to write this blog I did do a little research of review sites to see what people thought of the sled hill and they were mostly positive with some complaining about the waits for tubes.  Check out Yelps reviews for the Fraser snow tubing hill.

We will schlep the twins out to Fraser this winter and give the Fraser Sled Hill a try and I will write a first hand review of Grand Counties very own sled hill.  We will keep you posted.

Winter Park Sledding: Hideaway Park

Sledding in Hideaway Park

Need to get the kids out of the house? Want to take a day off of skiing? Winter Park has invested in a fabulous remodeled park in downtown called Hideaway Park.   In the summer it is the home to weekly concerts, but in the winter, it’s the perfect sledding hill for small children and it’s free!

We took our 17 month old twins there this week for their first sledding experience.   There were sleds there for our use (left by others who couldn’t take them on the plane, I guess!), snow was slippery, and we had a great time.

They even have rails for the “older” kids. Check out this 2 & 1/2 year old sledding over the rail (bottom right).

There’s also a great playground and a skate park.  They even have a slide from the top of the sledding hill area to the street below.

How to find it? Go to downtown Winter Park (arriving from the resort/Denver side), go to the 2nd stoplight and take a right (at the Chamber Of Commerce).  Park and walk up the stairs to the park area and top of the sledding hill.

Enjoy!

Elk Creek – Secret Sledding Hill

Got some inside scoop the other day on a sweet place to sled where the locals go. It’s called Elk Creek and it’s easy to find.   Turn left at the stoplight in Fraser and drive PAST the tubing hill. About a mile down the road, the road dead ends. Park and walk straight and you’ll see a nice sledding hill with probably no one on it!

Here’s a photo of us trying it out this week. You will need your own sled though (or most of our rental properties have sleds in them for you to use).

Hike Up!

When a friend of ours asked me to pick her up at the Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park (a sign I had driven by countless times on my way home), I thought it would be fun to check out.  Kind of like my experience with horseback riding this summer, I was once again amazed that this type of unique fun experience was literally within walking distance of my home!
We arrived to find 84 Siberian and Alaskan huskies barking ready to be hooked on to the sleds.  They chose 30 of them and took out 4 sleds.
My sister-in-law and neice went for her birthday treat.  They loved it!  Said they went thru trails and the scenery was beautiful.  Unlike the barking start, they said it was very peaceful as the dogs don’t bark while they are hoofing it!
The owners, Jeff and Tracie Martin, are really nice too – they live on the premise.  It’s a bit of a splurge, but worth it. How many people can say they’ve been on a Dog Sled Ride??  One of those things you can brag about and have great photos to boot.

Out on the Trail

Open everyday but Tuesday. Prices are $150 for an adult and child and $175 for 2 adults.  45 minutes long although we hear that in the afternoon, the rides get a bit slower and longer (those doggies are tired!).

Wondering how they keep those dogs active in the summer? Golf Carts!!
