Thanksgiving in Winter Park, CO

colorado ski resort thanksgivingWinter Park Resort Thanksgiving

Looking to spend turkey day Thanksgiving,  up in the high country of Colorado?  Well look no further for in Winter Park, Colorado Thanksgiving is a dream come true.

A Thanksgiving getaway throws some vacationers and skiers off because there is a choice to be made between turkey, skiing and football.  Well, you can have it all ways at Winter Park Resort and Devil’s Thumb Ranch.

The best of both worlds is to dig into a turkey and the trimmings in ski country after a good day on the snow. Thanksgiving will fall just four days before a full moon, so if you dine someplace with a view and the sky is clear, you may get the bonus of silvery snow and mountain-scapes bathed in moonbeams.

Sunspot, pictured above with a full moon, offers a dazzling spread of all that is Thanksgiving.  Take a gondola ride up the Winter Park slopes and get million dollar views of the continental divide and the Fraser Valley.

At the Ranch House Restaurant just 10 min up the road  at Devil’s Thumb Ranch a traditional Thanksgiving dinner can be expected with a modern twist.  The Ranch House is a 1930 original homestead with stunning views of the Indian Peaks Wilderness.  The food here is exquisite and will be the talk of future Thanksgiving for years to come.

One option for visitors who can’t miss Thanksgiving Day football is to have dinner delivered to their condo.  Or make a trip to City Market or Safeway and make up your Thanksgiving meal as you would at home.

Winter Park, CO Memorial Day

kid fishing in Winter Park ColoradoWinter Park, Colorado Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend is here.  The start of official summer season and the weatrher is going straight from winter to summer.  The weekend weather looks good with no precipitation in the forecast and almost all of the winter snow melted.

Looking for something to do up in Winter Park?  Well there are lots of options this year with the weather looking the way it is.  Here are some of your choices:

Fishing in Winter Park Lakes - We have a bunch of lakes here along US 40 and almost all are stocked with fish your you and the little ones. These small lakes are perfect for the kids to try to hook a big one.  They are also good for the young at heart to try to snag a few.  The one lake at the entrance to Rendezvous is supposed to be a Rendezvous owner only lake but it seems to me anyone can just walk on up and catch a few (it is a very well stocked lake).

Mountain Biking at RendezvousSome of the lower elevation riding here in Winter Park and the snow is all gone, there is a little mud though. This is my favorite riding in Winter Park with some rllong hills and some great flat trail along streams and a few water crossing spots.  It is some very fun biking for just about all levels depending on what trails you take.

Take a Drive Over Trail Ridge RoadThe road will be open by the Friday before Memorial Day and it should make for a spectacular day to check out Rocky Mountain National Park.

Come and enjoy a Winter Park Restaurant with lots of deals going on.  Deno’s, The Sushi Bar, Back Country Grill are all offering big discounts and some great food.

Yes summere is officialy here so come on up to see all the beauty up here.  Winter Park Resort base are operations do not open until June 12 but the a lot of stuff do do up here until then.

More on Weddings in Winter Park!

As more and more engaged couples catch on to the appeal and popularity of our quaint and beautiful town, it seems that new businesses that cater to weddings in Winter Park keep popping up. Recently I’ve stumbled upon a couple of well kept secret gems that I’m happy to be able to share with everyone.

First, wedding cakes! Evelyn Stowers has been in the business of making delicious and elegant wedding cakes for 44 years. In fact, the first wedding cake she ever created was for her own wedding (they’re still happily married, likely due to her sweet personality and the cakes she’s always whipping up in their kitchen). Evelyn showed me a binder filled with hundreds of cakes she’s created over the years, and I have to say that I melted completely into giddy girl mode! She has fun and gorgeous ideas for decoration, and after almost half a century of baking, you better believe she’s got more than a couple delicious cake recipes on hand. So ff you don’t feel like hunting down a big banner to post on your car that says “wedding cake on board” while you drive up our curvy mountain pass, then send Mrs. Stowers an email at evelynstowers@yahoo.com. She’ll be happy to hear from you!

Second, and a little more unique, is Ear 2 Ear photo booths. A couple of locals, Jeff Skinner and John Vella, have found great success with their small business of delivering, setting up, and operating photo booths at all kinds of events, including weddings. And yes, you’re thinking of the right photo booths: the same ones you laugh like crazy in at carnivals with your best friends. Photo booths are a creative and fun addition at any event; we think it’s worth your time to check it out! You can read about all the details and see some sample photos at www.ear2earphotobooths.com , then give Jeff and John a call at 970 509 9778.

And as always, if you have any questions about other great services in the area or are interested in lodging, give Winter Park Lodging Company a call at 877-329-1383. We’re always happy to hear from you!

Winter Park Wells Fargo Easter egg huntWinter Park, CO Easter Candy Hunt

Looking for something fun to do with the kids for this Easter?  Winter Park Resort is hosting the Wells Fargo Easter Egg and Candy Hunt April 4th.   This is a great way to get the kids outside and enjoy some fresf Colorado mountain air.

There is also the long running tradition of the Bunny Race.  Winter Park Willie and the Easter Bunny deliver holiday fun with an on-mountain candy hunt in Discovery Park as well as a base area egg hunt for children under 5. The “Bunny Race” has been an Easter tradition for more than 30 years for children ages 10 and under. For more details, call the Guest Information Hotline at 970.726.1564.

Come out and see the Easter Bunny in his mountain garb.  Will he be hard driving bump skier like the picture above or is he the docile type hanging about the base pretending to be a skiing bunny?

Easter Candy and Egg Hunt Schedule:

11:45am: Younger non-skiing “hunters’ (ages 5 & under only) meet the Easter Bunny in the Zephyr Plaza near the Slopeside Mountain Adventure Center, and wait for the candy hunt to begin.

12pm: The “hunt” begins! Parents may assist younger children to look for candy.

There is also the Golden Bunny Fun Race:

New Openings in Winter Park, CO

Open in Winter Park, COThere are lots and lots of new stores opening up here in Winter Park, Colorado.  Our town just seems to be booming with all the restaurants opening and the Rec Center open for the first day and all this just in time for Christmas.

First we have the Fraser/Winter Park Rec Center open for the very first day to what looks like universal approval here in the Fraser Valley.  We will be visiting this coming week and will let you know how the final product turned out.  From what I have seen it looks spectacular (I can’t wait to steam my old bones in the steam sauna).

Last night Alberto’s had a soft opening to get some of the kinks out before tonight’s official Grand Opening.  I heard that the food was terrific and the space looks just as good.  For those not on the know, Alberto’s is brought to us by the folks that own the Tabernash Tavern.  They have redone the space in Cooper Creek Square that most recently housed the Green Olive Italian steakhouse.  We will try to make it out to Alberto’s in the next week and let your know about their operation.

The Cosmic Dog Mexican Grill is also opening tonight.  I popped my head in today and the space looks pretty cool.  I got a chance to talk to Fernand, the owner, and he says they should be serving up some burritos  tonight.  He also said he was exhausted from their push to get open in time for the Winter Park holiday season.  I can’t wait to have a burrito this week.  Nice work Fernand on the space, it looks great.

Lastly there is Ziggy’s Doughnuts.  Our very own hot fresh doughnut factory located next to Fontenot’s Cajun Cafe in the Kings Crossing Retail Center.  Talked Ziggy today and he says they should be open by the 3rd of January.  Ziggy’s will have coffee, fresh donuts, and some video games set among a cool interior with counter service and tables and chairs.  Would be great if Ziggy could figure out a way to offer some wine and beer, anywho,  I’m am satisfied with hot donuts for now though.

So our little enclave of heaven up here in the Colorado Rockies just seems to be booming with all these openings.  It looks like the economy is tuning around and vacationers ans skiers are starting to return to the hills.  We got some unexpected snow the last few nights and everyone here in Winter Park is getting ready for Christmas.  All seems well in the Winter Park part of the world.

New Years Eve Celebration in Winter Park, Colorado

Come celebrate the end of 2009 with some high country fun in Winter Park Colorado.  Spend the day skiing and then head to Hideaway Park in the Town of Winter Park and be treated to some free sledding, rail skates, hot chocolate, human bowling and some warm fire pits with fireworks going off at 10pm.  Great fun for the whole family and if you take it easy on the booze get up early and hit the slopes and start a perfect 2010 by making some turns down the Winter Park Resort slopes.

If the family thing is not your cup of tea there is the Grand County Blues Society New Years Eve Celebration that will be held up at Silverado II Resort and Event Center.  Bring in the New Year in style, blues style! Great food, company and dancing music with champagne toast.  Featured artist is Nick Moss & The Flip Tops with Lurrie Bell.  Time is still to be announced for the the blues celebration.

If blues and the family thing both are not what you are looking for then head out to one of the hopping restaurants at the resort or in town.  I recommend the Cheeky Monk, Tabernash Tavern or the Sushi Bar.

New Years Eve comes once a year.  Don’t waste the one night with a lame night out down in the city.  Make a special evening with special memories and have a Winter Park, Colorado New Years Eve.

Christmas on the Colorado Ski Slopes

Colorado ski Christmas

Christmas in the Colorado Rockies

That is Santa in the photo looking at all the Colorado ski resorts to find the one with the most snow to bring his sled down into Colorado.  WOW and Behold he has  seen that Winter Park receives the most snow of all destination resorts in Colorado so Santa will be visiting our humble little ski hill here in Winter Park, Colorado.

We are all gearing up for the visit.  Santa should be in town in time for the Winter Park Resort Torchlight Parade that will be happening at Winter Park Resort on Christmas eve.  He will then head out to deliver all his presents for the children of the world.  I’m sure that he will make a return visit sometime to the resort on Christmas day.  Look for him out and about at The Winter park Village.

For all you adult children there is lots to do Christmas Eve and Christmas day.  Sunspot will be open and they will be offering a five course fine dining menu (I think this is last years menu so check back) and they will also offer a buffet perfect for those families with kids.  There are a variety of items to choose from including carved meats, chicken, fish, vegetables, potatoes, salads, fresh-baked breads and desserts.  Both dining options have a set price which includes your Zephyr gondola ride, non-alcoholic beverages and meal.  Alcohol, specialty coffee beverages, gratuity and sales tax will be additional.  Children 10 and under pricing available.

For Sunspot reservations call 970-726-1446.

Not wanting to head all the way up the hill then stay around the Winter Park Village for some Christmas caroling and hanging out by the fires.  The Cheeky Monk and Lime will serve up a fantastic beer or cocktail to get you in the holiday spirit.

You are certain to have a white Christmas here in Winter Park, Colorado so come up lets make some lasting Santa memories for all you kids out there!
