Fall Fun in Winter Park

Fall is upon us and there are still quite a few fun activities to check out during October. Here are some highlights…

October 9-10: 24th Annual Ski Swap. Come on down to West Portal Station to get huge discounts on new and used ski gear and outerwear for the whole family. The swap is a primary fundraiser for the Winter Park Competition Center and scholarship funds, so help the cause! For more info, call 970-726-1590

October 15: Scary Movie Night @ the Fraser Library- “Children of the Corn”. Be prepared to get spooked- show starts at 6pm. For info call 970-726-5689

October 28: Showing of Warren Miller’s Dynasty. Head to Winter Parks Silver Screen Cinemas to check out the best in the ski movie biz. Showings at 6 and 9pm. Contact 970-726-5390 for more details.

October 31: Cooper Creek is hosting the 9th annual Trick or Treat Street and Haunted House. From 4-7pm, come out with the kids for some spooky family fun! Here are a few of the activities planned-

Scarecrow scare-off contest announced at Moe’s at 7pm

Winter Park Photographer

We have to brag about our favorite local photographer for a minute. Steve Willis is a long time resident of Winter Park and has an amazing talent for capturing the beauty of life in the mountains in his photos. We’re lucky to have a few of his pieces on display in our office now, so feel free to swing by and check them out! For a very reasonable price, you can even buy your own authentic shot of Perry’s Peak or the Winter Park slopes to hang up in your mountain home. In addition to landscapes, Steve also does wedding photography and family photos to capture your Winter Park experience. Below are two that we have in our office but to see some in person, you can stop by the Fraser Library where he’s currently showing a wide variety. Try out Winter Parks Best Hot Dog at the Cosmic Dog!

Located in downtown Winter Park next to the Gausthaus Eichler, the Cosmic Dog is a delicious and affordable new addition to your summertime lunch options. The bright colored vendor stand specializes in a variety of hot dogs (beef, pork, chicken and veggie) that are first steamed and then put on the grill for that yummy finishing touch. Being ladies who can appreciate a quality hot dog, Amy and I went to check it out the other day. We both went with the “meal deal” which includes your choice of dog, side, and drink for $6.50. As the beef franks went on the grill, we chose our sides from three options of chips, curry potato salad or homemade coleslaw. Last but not least was my personal favorite, the lengthy condoment station stocked with an array of peppers, onions, slaw, sauces and more. Topped off with an ice cold soda, we enjoyed our meal in the sun, at one of the picnic tables provided. Fernand, the owner of Cosmic Dog (see above) was very gracious and also gives out punch cards that will get you a free dog after purchasing five.
