When will Winter Park, CO Receive the First Measurable Snow for Winter 2011?
It is that time of year again when we are on the snow lookout. We are on our fourth year of the Winter Park,CO First Measurable Snow Contest. This year looks to be a good year of snow as the La Nina weather pattern is supposed to be hanging on until early in 2012. And that little La Nina was oh so kind to us last year we are looking for some great snow early this year, knock on wood.
Anyone fortunate enough to live or travel out here to CO during the 2010-11 winter knows that it was the mother of all winters with most Colorado resorts boasting record snow totals. Could this winter be a repeat of the La Nina conditions that brought about last year’s nearly endless winter (we had good a good snowfall in mid-June)?
The NOAA’s current climate models give us a coin flip’s chance at either a repeat La Nina event or the normal ENSO neutral. They aren’t the best odds in the world, but I’ll take them. Anywho, lets hope that the snow is flying early and often to make this another good winter of skiing.
The first measurable snow in Winter Park, Colorado contest goes like this:
- Guess the day of the first measurable snow at Winter Park Resort in the comments section below this blog or on the Winter Park Lodging Company Facebook Page
- Only one guess per person
- Measurable snow is more than half an inch
- Prize is dinner for two at Deno’s Mountain Bistro, $100.00 limit
- Guess must be in two days before actual snow
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
My guess for first snow at Winter Park Resort for the 2011/2012 ski season is September 13th. Looking for 3 inches on the 13th. I was a month off last year so maybe it will give us another month of mountain biking here in WP if I pick early.
My guess for first measurable snow is Oct 29
Im gonna roll with 4 inches on the 22nd of October.
September 21st
gotta say Chris , i hope you’re wrong!:) I’m going with October 19th.
September 23, 2011. Just visited snow mountain last week of July. Would love to come back soon!
September 17th!
My guess is september 24th 2011!
October 17
I am ready (except for having firewood cut and stacked)–so will go early. September 23rd.
4 inches on September 12th
Oct 1st
“Last year I predicted September 15th and was off by almost a month.”
I’m going with your September 15th guess from last year…
My guess: September 15th
I think Sept 22nd
since it snowed on the tops of the mountains today, I think it’s going to be an early big snow. Going with Sept 28th.
I’m going late with my Anniversary date October 12th.
My guess is October 25th.
I predict a suprisingly strong snowfall on 9/27. Bundle up or head to lower elevation!
As an “old” snowmaker, I know when it is going to snow, therefore I will be enjoying the free meal. The correct date is: 10/4/2011 before noon.
The ‘dust’ is already at the top, so it won’t be long. That first 1/2 inch will come on Oct 6.
I predict September 28th…..
I’m going with October 2nd, and 2 inches at 11:23 am. Just a guess, but I got a feeling!
I’ll say September 25th
I will venture a guess for Sept. 18th. Let it Snow!
I’m fairly confident in the date Sept 30 for the first measurable snow.
October 3rd- can’t wait!
Sept 30th is my guess:)
Think snow on Sept 29!
Snow on September 27!
October 15th seems about right
I’m thinking the first snow will be on Oct. 7th! I’m ready…….
First Snow Sept 29th 2011
On october 5th we will get first snow of the year
The first snow contest is now closed for entries. Looking at a couple of storms making their way through the next few days that are surely to result in the first measurable snow of the year here in Winter Park/Mary Jane.
HOLY COW!!!!! My family has been doing the same sort of contest since 1998 …. we’re putting our guesses in today for Wichita, KS.
