It’s Snowing in Winter Park, Colorado!

Snow at Winter Park ResortEnough already with the it’s snowing in Winter Park blog posts, huh!  Well it keeps on snowing.  Isn’t it supposed to snow in a place named Winter Park? Well, yes it is and we are on our third day of snow.  Let it keep on coming.

The picture to the left was taken yesterday, September 23rd, after pretty much snowing the entire day.  The weather keeps up like this and we will be having a true epic year of skiing and boarding up here in the Colorado Rockies.

56 days until Winter Park Resort is open.

Snow at Winter Park Resort

winter park base first snow Sept. 21 , 2009 We have snow here in Winter Park! There was three inches at mid mountain yesterday and it has been snowing at a good clip the last three hours.  Check out the snow on the flowers from yesterday September 21st , 2009.

The Winter Park Lodging Company first snow in Winter Park Contest is over and we have two winners Heather and Wendy.  All the snow is getting me in the skiing mood.  Only 57 days until Winter Park Resort is open.  Better rush and get all my equipment prepped and ready to go.  Probably not my equipment that needs prepping but my tired old body.

Now is the time to book your lodging for the 2009/10 ski season.  Remember to book by the end of September and it’s only 25% down to reserve your preferred accommodations.

We have the first snow in Winter Park! September 21st, 2009 is the day and we have two winners.  Wendy and Heather come on down you two are the lucky winners of Winter Park Lodging Company’s Winter Park first snow contest.

The evidence is clear as you can see in the photos and we have official word that the resort received more than three inches at mid-mountain.  Not just yesterday, but today it is snowing even harder and the fore-cast calls for snow the next couple of days also.  We are gearing up for ski season here in Winter Park.  Crazy, seems like we were having a great summer just three days ago.  Well, now that we have snow on the ground let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

The time is now to book your 2009/10 ski lodging.  It is an El Nino year so we are looking for lots of snow without the bone chilling temperatures.

Village at Winter Park – Sit in the Big Seats

The Big Seats At the Village

The Big Seats At the Village

Visit the Village at Winter Park this Fall and get a holiday card worth framing. You can sit in the big chairs near the pond and snap a good photo of the kiddos.

Or enjoy the musical stops as you walk thru the village where the little ones (and big ones) can try their hand at making music with chimes.
Soon the Miniboni (small version of Zamboni) will be out on the ice and you can get on your skates and sip hot cider at the Cheeky Monk.

Winter Park Resort: Snow on the Ground!

Snow in Winter Park, ColoradoSnow at Winter Park Resort

That’s right we got snow today up in Winter Park!  It has been snowing off and on all day and it definitely feels like winter is starting to nudge fall out of the way.  No, we didn’t get as much snow as the picture on the left but we did get some sticking to the ground, yes a measurable amount.  The “when will it first snow in Winter Park contest” is over and a winner will be announced here shortly.

It was great summer up here in WP but it was a nice sight to wake up to some snow on the ground and a cold chill in the air.  Nothing like a some white stuff on the ground to get the skiing juices flowing.  Winter Park Resort opens November 18th, 2009 and that is not a day too soon.  That means there are only 58 days until the Resort opens, but who is counting?  ME, I am.  If today’s weather forecast is any indication we are in for a lot of snow this winter.  El Nino 2006 brought a whole bunch powder our way and here is hoping for a bunch for El Nino winter 2009/2010.

Now is the time to reserve your Winter Park ski lodging.  Remember until the end of September it is only 25% down to reserve your Winter Park, Colorado vacation lodging.

Take a Dog Cart Ride and See the Fall Colors in Winter Park

sled dogsThe huskies of Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park can’t stop howlin’ with happiness that the cooler temperatures of fall are here and the snow isn’t that far behind. They are thrilled to get out onto the trail again. There will be one ride at 8am both Saturday and Sunday mornings until mid October when they will start taking multiple trips each day.  If you would like to meet all the dogs and check out their digs, we suggest a kennel tour.   By booking with Winter Park Lodging Company, you will recieve a $10 discount on each cart ride you book. Try to get here in October so you can wish Zeus a happy birthday on October 18th.  If you are a dog lover yourself and can’t imaging travelling without your furry friend, give us a call and we can find a great dog-friendly property for your Winter Park stay.

Winter Park Restaurants | Mountain Rose Cafe

Mountain Rose CafeWe had a Winter Park Lodging Company outing this past Friday and we visited the Mountain Rose Cafe here in Winter Park.  Amy, chief workaholic at WPLCO, used to work here and a friend of Sam, our newest, runs the kitchen.

Well, what a fantastic lunch we had.  I had the shredded chicken breakfast burrito and it was awesome.  Everyone else said their meal was very good and it all looked great.

They have 4 or 5 tables out front that are perfect for the fall weather we have been having up here in Winter Park.

I would recommend the Mountain Rose especially for a bite before you hit the slopes or head out on a mountain bike ride.

Dog Cart Rides in Winter Park

sled dog on a runPeople aren’t the only ones who enjoy the crispness of fall and start to look forward to the first snowfall, the huskies of Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park are also howlin’  with happiness about the cooler temperatures and predictions of big snow.  They will be running one cart ride on both Saturday and Sunday mornings through mid October. After that, they will  run multipe rides throughout the day.  The cart ride is $125 for 1 or 2 people. If you aren’t into the riding, but would still like to see the dogs, you can go on  a kennel tour for $15/ adults and $7.50/kids. If you happen to visit on October 18th, be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to Zeus! Winter Park Lodging Company would love to host you at one of our great condos just minutes from the dogs and the ride of a lifetime.

Winter Park Photographer

We have to brag about our favorite local photographer for a minute. Steve Willis is a long time resident of Winter Park and has an amazing talent for capturing the beauty of life in the mountains in his photos. We’re lucky to have a few of his pieces on display in our office now, so feel free to swing by and check them out! For a very reasonable price, you can even buy your own authentic shot of Perry’s Peak or the Winter Park slopes to hang up in your mountain home. In addition to landscapes, Steve also does wedding photography and family photos to capture your Winter Park experience. Below are two that we have in our office but to see some in person,  you can stop by the Fraser Library where he’s currently showing a wide variety.  For more information on Steve’s work you can email him at steven@willisphoto.com.

Winter Park Ski Train to Make a Return

winter park ski trainWinter Park Ski Train

The Denver Post reported today that plans are almost finalized to bring back the Winter Park Ski Train for it’s 70th season of operation between Denver and Winter Park Resort.  Amtrak and Iowa Pacific got the go-ahead for Denver-to-Winter Park rail trips from Dec. 26 to March 28 from Union Pacific Railroad.  Union Pacific Railroad owns the track that the Ski Train runs on.

The operation would use Iowa Pacific trains that sit idle in the winter months and man them with Amtrak operational  staff.  The train would use Union Station in Lower Downtown Denver this year and then move to a temporary station the next three years while Union Station is remodeled as the Denver light rail hub.  Iowa Pacific runs the train in Southern Colorado in the summer months as tourist excursion trips in Alamosa, La Veta, Antonito and Monte Vista.

We here at Winter Park Lodging Company say YEAH to bringing back the train.  We would hope that they would allow tickets to be bought for different days of arrival and departure though.  How fun to be able to leave Denver spend three night on the slopes and return while never having to get in a car.  This is also good for the I-70 traffic that has become Los Angeles like on weekends in the winter months.
