I thought I would do a little restaurant review of the Back Country Grill in the town of Winter Park. We headed over last Tuesday night to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant now occupies the space that Sushi Bar was in two years ago. We walked right up and got a seat on the patio and it was a lovely night.
Started the night out with a couple of Stoli and tonics and moved right into dinner. Sarah had the Filet Mignon and I had the pork chop of the day. The pork chop was stuffed with goat cheese and herbs and it was fantastic. Sarah’s filet was also very good.
We ordered a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape that was a bit thin and bitter. We asked our server about it and she agreed and brought out the owner. He suggested letting the wine breath a bit. After about ten minutes the wine had changed and really opened up. Turned out to be a great bottle of wine and we were impressed with how they tried to handle our complaint.
To right is a photo of the happy hour specials that Back Country Grill is currently offering.
Overall we were impressed with the service, food and atmosphere. We shall return.

My husband Chad and I visited Winter Park for our Anniversary last January. It was our first grown-up getaway (without our little one’s) in 7 years. We were advised by the bus driver that the best place in town to eat would hands down be the back country grill. WE LOVED IT! We ate there every night of our 5 night trip. We figured the food was great. Bob the owner and cook was fantastic. The wait staff was friendly and most accomodating. I loved the Filet. I think I ordered it two or three nights…It was perfect, I also really enjoyed the Alfredo….and the crab dip was amazing…. My husband had the elk medalions, the filet, and the venison. Hey, why bother with trying out other restraunts? After an amazing day on the slops…nothing sounded better than Back Country Grill, and a chat with Bob and other locals. We are thinking about going back to Winter Park rather than Red River when we take our family ski trip this year…and I will be thinking of that Filet until then.
