Winter Park Alpine Art Affair Weekend–July 25 & 26

art-affairThe 36th annual Alpine Art Affair will take place under the pines in downtown Winter Park July 25 and 26.  Start your morning with pancakes served by the Lion’s Club of Winter Park. The artists  booths will be set up downtown in the park across from Park Place shopping center. There will be artists there from all over the United States displaying their crafts of every medium.  You can find jewelry, paintings, glass works, photography, sculptures, pottery, and more.  There are also kids booths and local live music to entertain. Smokin’ Moe’s will be there to provide yummy bar-b-q for lunch.  Not into bar-b-q, then head to another Winter Park restuarant. They are all within walking distance of the art show.  The artists will display their crafts from 9-6 on Saturday, and 9-4 on Sunday.  Admission is free, so come early to get the best deals.  And remember to wear closed  toe shoes, those wood chips can really wear your toes down after a few hours.

The Fishing in Grand County is about to be Great!

With all the rain, the fishing hasn’t been that great for the last month. There have been heavy hatches, muddy water, and fast flows. That’s all about to change. Now that the rain has let up, conditions will improve rapidly as the water levels start to drop. Fishing will be great in both the lakes and on the rivers.  The boys at Mo Henry’s Trout Shop, located in Fraser, will be happy to “hook” you up with your supplies and guided trips. Winter Park Lodging Company has a condo for you right on the Fraser River or near the fishing pond.  So no matter if you prefer a worm or a fly, get up here to catch a big one.

Now is the Time to Raft! A Second Peak is Here!

aw1Generally in the mountains the rivers peak  during the May thaw. This year we have an added bonus caused by recent weather conditions. When the temperatures dropped and the heavens opened up, there wasn’t anywhere for the water to go but flush downstream.  This should last for a few weeks, so get your paddles out and call Adventures in Whitewater to reserve your spot on a raging river raft.  Winter Park Lodging Company has great hot tubs to warm up in after a thrilling chilling ride down the river.

Colorado is the Least Fat State Again

Don’t know if any Y’all have seen but Colorado is again the least fat state in this obese country of ours.  Is it because of our skiing or our mountain biking here in the great Rocky Mountains?  I’m thinking these are the specific reasons we are so fit here in Colorado.

Well if you want to get some of the best this great state has to offer come on up to Winter Park!  We have ove 600 miles of the best mountain biking around and the most snowfall of all the destination resorts in Colorado!  Come on up and stay fit and have some fun in Winter Park, Colorado.

Fraser Rodeo is Tons of Fun! And Just 5 minutes from Winter Park

The  High Country Stampede Rodeo is revving up for the summer, starting Saturday, July 4th in Fraser.  If you’ve never been, you need to go.  Locals love it as much as the tourists. Afterall, it doesn’t get any more western than a rodeo.  The junior events start at 4pm and include barrel racing, goat tying, team roping and more.  The main event starts at 7pm and entertains the audience with rodeo-clown1everything from mutton bustin’, my favorite, to bull riding.

The Chuckwagon is open for dinner with fantastic bar-b-q provided by Sage Brush of Grand Lake.

Tickets are just $10/adult and $8/kids and mark your calendars for July 18th and August 16th, both are Family Nights at the Rodeo when kids are FREE!

To get to the rodeo, take a left at the red light in Fraser, go under the railroad bridge and bear right onto Fraser Valley Parkway through the meadow, then turn left left onto Mill Avenue. The rodeo will be about a mile down on your right. Remember to bring something soft to sit on, those wooden bleachers are even hard on a bull riders bottom.
