Winter Park Restaurant/Bar Happy Hours: The inside scoop!

Hey Y’all,  I was sitting in Lime at the Winter Park Village having a nice margarita yesterday and I overheard a customer asking about happy hour.  This gave me a great idea to put all the local happy hours in one place so that in these tough economic times we can still get a good buzz on for cheap up here in Winter Park.  So here goes in no particular order:

happy-hour-winter-park

OHM… Yoga, Winter Park Style

300px-boat_poseDid you know? Winter Park has it’s own yoga studio at Winter Park Station, just a few steps from Cooper Creek Square shopping center. I’ve been getting into it lately and so far, I love it. Mountain Moon Yoga has a few classes every day of the week now, usually at 7:30 am, 9:00 am and/or at 5:30 ish.  There are a variety of classes, including pilates if you’re more interested in toning while stretching out. Aahhh, stretching out tight muscles and letting go of daily stress is great after a full day of skiing, or any activity you like to do.  What a nice way to restore your body and keep you in great physical and mental shape. The classes are full of people of all ages and backgrounds, from world-class mountain climbers to young moms. I love the Hatha Yoga class and the Yoga Therapy classes, easy enough for beginners like me. If you’re in Fraser, there are also classes at the Alpine Physical Therapy, just across from the gas station. For Mountain Moon Yoga, go to www.mtmoonyoga.com for a class schedule, and for Alpine Physical Therapy, go to www.alpinept.com.

Top 10 Reasons to Ski and Board in Winter Park in APRIL

Ed enjoying April skiing

Ed enjoying April skiing

April is the locals’ favorite month to ski.  This year, the resort is open until April 19th! Most everyone else is thinking since it’s warm in their city, it must not be good skiing in the mountains. Not true and here’s why. Our Top 10 List of why you should visit Winter Park in April:

1) April is the 2nd highest snowfall month of the year in Winter Park.

2) Average temperature in April is a high of 44 degrees. Throw the fleece on and ski in your long sleeve t-shirt!

3) Winter Park Lodging By Owner has sweet lodging deals. Stay 3 nights and get the 4th free.

4) Lift lines are short if any! All of the Spring Breakers have gone home and you have free reign of the mountain.

5) If you book with Winter Park Lodging By Owner, you can ski for $40/day (and kids ski for $25/day). You could almost splurge for a burger at Sunspot with that kind of savings.

6) You don’t have to wait for a table at one of the Top 10 Restaurants in Winter Park.

7) You can still cash in on the FREE Bruxelles draft beer at the new Cheeky Monk in the Village at Winter Park (you must mention “Winter Park Lodging By Owner”)
8) Available lounge chairs at Snoasis and Lunch Rock.  Sit outside in the sun and have a cold one or a hot dog (or both considering you’re skiing for 40 bucks!) and R-E-L-A-X.

9) Avoid having to go to Easter egg hunts in hometown.

10) And the #1 reason why you should ski or board in Winter Park in April – another day to put off doing your tax return!!!

Brickhouse 40 now open in Granby

We checked out the brand new restaurant on Main Street in Granby, and boy, oh boy, all I could think was “you’re not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy”.

You feel like you stepped out of Granby and into downtown Denver as soon as you go through the front door. Dino Kaplanis, the chef, and his wife, Amy,  have certainly created an inviting dinner spot with relaxing atmosphere, delicious food, and an affordable wine list.

Located in what was once the home furnishings store, you are instantly welcomed when you walk through the door. The fantastic fireplace surrounded by comfy chairs is a great spot to enjoy a cocktail before or after dinner. The friendly staff ushers you in with such warmth that everyone feels like a local.

The menu focuses mainly on Greek dishes and dishes with a Mediterranean twist. We sampled a   few different entrees and enjoyed them all. The baby lamb chops, served in a smaller portion, were tender and juicy. The perfect size serving  to

enjoy with the fresh Greek salad. Yia Yia’s Pasta with red sauce was a yummy blend of Mediterranean flavors, and the serving  was so large we took some home.  But it was the Chicken Milanese that stole the show. It was sooooo tender and served with a duo of sauces that complimented each other and the chicken perfectly. I don’t have to tell you that there were no leftovers on my plate, even though the portion was quite healthy. We finished off the meal with Loukamathis, Greek donut holes. They were just the right amount of sweet and fluffy goodness to go with our Ouzo shots. Dino joined us for a toast and wanted to make sure I told everyone “The Ouzo flows freely here!”

They are open every day for lunch, 11-2. Dinner hours are Monday through Thursday, 5-9, and Friday and Saturday, 5-10.  I’m also looking forward to brunch on Sunday, 10-2. They have an omelet bar, my favorite! Make sure to check it out, because it’s worth the drive “all the way to Granby”!
